Dowse Norwood Architects Pty Ltd

Dowse Norwood Architects was established in July 2001 by Glen Dowse and Ross Norwood. The partnership brings together the extensive experience and reputations established by the two directors. The Dowse Norwood Architects team have long established ties with the Canberra region and have a strong commitment to fostering regionally based architectural values and appreciation of environmentally sustainable design principles.

Prior to establishing Dowse Norwood Architects, Glen Dowse was a principal in the firm TT Architecture for a period of eight years. The main areas of activity for this practice were in the areas of Commercial Fitout and Refurbishment, Public Authority Dual Occupancy Housing, Residential Architecture (new houses and extensions),and medium to small scale commercial work. While being actively involved in all areas of the practice Glen was primarily responsible for the practices success in establishing a market share in the commercial sector.

Prior to establishing Dowse Norwood Architects Ross Norwood was a senior Architect at Bligh Voller Nield for a period of 3 years and Butterworth Russell for a period of 6 years. He has gained a wide range of experience and a strong reputation in a variety of works including large scale development masterplanning and urban design; feasibility studies; large to small scale commercial office building refurbishments and fitouts; large to small scale retail, residential land resort developments; club, recreational and educational buildings; parking structures and building condition and compliance audits.

Practice Direction

The targeted direction for the practice at present is to maintain a well rounded portfolio of work in all areas. Particular attention will be focused on opportunities in the commercial market of new buildings, and office and retail fitouts. We are also actively involved in the residential market with a number of new contemporary homes and renovations. Presently we are the principal Architects for Better Building Services and Classic Constructions.

Technical Resources And Capacity

Dowse Norwood Architects has three fully qualified architects, two graduate architects, two student architects, three contract draftsmen and two interior designers available who are collectively, experienced in a wide cross section of building types from large commercial projects to residential design .

Interior design and colour consultation on most projects is carried out in conjunction with Enigma Design forming an integral part of the team.

Financial Capacity And Professional Indemnity Insurance

Dowse Norwood Architects has strong connections with Westpac Bank which would be supportive of additional finance for any future commission requiring this input. The current work load has not involved additional finance being required, and in general, office policy is to operate on and maintain a credit account.

Adequate Professional Indemnity Insurance has been taken out with Suncorp Metway Insurance Limited (policy number 02SUN003909/04) to the value of $5,000,000 and the subscription is updated and renewed on an annual basis.
